The price of any family travel insurance pack will be the same as a standard policy for a couple. Prices for two adults and up to four children start at only £17 for 3 days of cover. Cover is also available online for one adult travelling with up to four children. You only pay the single adult price and the kids go free.

Tips to ease travelling with children
Flying:
• Talk to your airline before flying – many allow pre-booking family seats together and can often allow you to order a child’s meal or a raised seat for babies.
• Research airports; sometimes regional airports cater better for small children with more entertainment and less hassle.
• Feeding children a snack during take-off and landing can ease the pressure on their ears and keep them well hydrated.
• Split your luggage across cases, losing all toys and children’s clothes could spell disaster.
General:
• Ensure you take a bargaining tool for critical situations – a new game, book or snack that will calm them down.
• Ask your doctor for your child’s vaccination records, blood type and take photocopies of details of any relevant allergies and medication. This can save valuable time in an emergency.
• Always take nightlights as unfamiliar territory may make night time toilet trips and sleeping difficult.
• Check on lifeguard policy if your destination has a pool; some will be un-manned so you may need to keep a close eye on your child.
• Research the food for your destination country and prepare the kids by trying out a few recipes beforehand to avoid any restaurant nightmares.
